Jill Martz 4-HCCS CURRICULUM REDUCED PRICES We received information regarding the 4-H Cooperative Curriculum System. You may place direct orders and as you can see, there are bargains. Several county 4-H Extension agents have recently expressed interest in purchasing one or more complete sets of all the 4-HCCS products and/or complete sets of the 2004 new and revised products. In response to these requests 4-HCCS is making available these two sets for 50% off the retail price. Orders will only be accepted online (www.n4hccs.org) from February 23 to March 31. Because of the cost of assembling these sets, all orders will be filled at one time. An August shipping date is anticipated. Please keep this order separate from any state or county pre-press orders. ACADEMIC CONFERENCE AND ELECTRIC CAMP WEB SITES UPDATED The Tennessee Junior High 4-H Academic Conference and 4-H Electric Camp pages have been updated and reflect the information for 2004. The URL for the Academic Conference site is www.utextension.utk.edu/4H/acadconf/. The Electric Camp site may be accessed through www.utextension.utk.edu/4H/elecamp/. These sites promote the events and contain information of interest for potential participants... including who may attend, program highlights, and what to bring. There are links from the sites to the registration and application forms as well as the Activity and Event Acceptance Form (F600A). Both sites also have guestbooks for 4-H’ers to use in asking questions, leaving messages for other delegates or reading what others have to say about the events. We hope these sites will be useful to you in promoting Academic Conference and Electric Camp with your 4-H members. Lori Jean Mantooth LINCOLN COUNTY HOMESCHOOL 4-H FIRST TO REGISTER NYSD PROJECT Congratulations to the Lincoln County Homeschool 4-H Club for being the first 4-H group in Tennessee to register a project for National Youth Service Day. Aaron Helms, a member of the club, reports that the group will build and fill at least 10 planter boxes to be given to shut-ins within their community. On the final day (April 18th), they will hold a reception for local and state officials and the media. Registered projects will be sent to Youth Service America to be posted on SERVEnet, a national database of service opportunities. Jean Mantooth NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK IS FAST APPROACHING! National Volunteer Week, April 18-24, 2004, designates a special time to recognize and celebrate the tremendous efforts of volunteers. This year’s theme is “Volunteers Inspire by Example.” This is a great opportunity to plan service projects, recognize youth and adult volunteers, and create positive change in your local communities. Patrick Hamilton STATE LEADER FORUM A HUGE SUCCESS On Saturday, February 14, nearly 130 teen leaders, volunteer leaders and Extension staff gathered in Gatlinburg at the Park Vista Resort Hotel for the State Leader Forum. Participants had the opportunity to attend many educational workshops and to hear a fabulous keynote address from Tom Lagana, co-author of Chicken Soup for the Volunteer Soul. Alice Ann Moore, Assistant Director for 4-H Youth Development, provided attendees with an update about the direction of Tennessee 4-H. Thanks to those who helped promote the forum. Congratulations to the Central District for having the largest district delegation (55) and to Rutherford County for having the largest county delegation (12). Kudos also goes out to the many teen leaders, volunteer leaders and Extension staff who facilitated workshop sessions.
