4-H NECK WALLETS/NAME TAG HOLDERS AVAILABLE
We have had counties interested in purchasing the neck wallet/name
tag holders that were used for this year’s Tennessee 4-H Congress
to use for other events. The wallet is an excellent way of keeping
up with personal belongings.
We will be placing an order through our office. The wallets would
have the 4-H emblem and Web site address on them. If you would like
to place an order for your event, the cost for the neck wallets
will be $2.00 each plus shipping.
If you wish to place an order, please contact Tammie Cole at 865-974-7434
or email at tdyer2@utk.edu.
The neck wallets will not be available until after April 19.

CONGRESS DELEGATES COLLECT 5000 ITEMS FOR
VANDERBILT CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Delegates and leaders at the 57th annual Tennessee 4-H Congress
collected over 5000 items for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Donated items included
diapers, baby shampoo, lavender lotion, blankets, gowns, hats, computer
disks, and more. Debbie Meloy and Mary Lee Lemley, NICU nurses at
Vanderbilt, spoke to delegates about the positive impact their contributions
will have on the babies and their families, and delegates had the
chance to reflect on their service experience in small group discussions.
Thanks to everyone who participated and made this project a success.

ENROLLMENT UPDATE: MORE FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS???
Summer camp is coming up and I know I need one trained
leader for every eight campers. How can I document their training?
Use the leadership training log to help you report them
in Chart 16. (See page 13 of the Blue Ribbon Youth Enrollment
training materials prepared by David Yates.) Report all training
of youth (not limited to teens) and adult volunteers in the
areas of:
Leadership - related to organizing, managing
and teaching youth in a nonformal education setting including
club officers, teacher inservice or orientation, judging teams,
preparation for summer camps, conferences and special interest
sessions
Parenting - summer camp orientation, Parenting
Apart involving school-age children, PTA or PTO meetings,
subject matter sessions related to developmental and learning
needs
Other - any topic beyond the scope of the
two listed above such as Congress or Roundup Readiness Day
If you send youth or adults to training conducted on a statewide
basis (Tennessee Volunteer Leader Forum, Southern Region Leader
Forum, Prudential Youth Leadership Institute) or district
training, you should still count them because you were instrumental
in getting them involved. |

TROUSDALE COUNTY LEADS THE STATE IN HONOR
CLUB INITIATES
Trousdale County is currently the top county in the state in terms
of number of Honor Club initiates for 2004. As of March 31, they
had 15 new Honor Club members approved for membership. Bedford and
Henry counties were tied for second with 10 initiates, followed
by Cannon County with 9. Central is the top district with 48 initiates.
We are convinced there is a positive correlation between the number
of Honor Club members a county can qualify and the quality of the
4-H program in the county. Honor Club membership is based on participation.
Unless many participation opportunities are made available, not
many 4-H’ers will be able to qualify for Honor Club recognition.
Go to www.utextension.utk.edu/4H/honorclub/howmany.htm
for a complete listing of Honor Club initiates by district and county
for January, February and March of this year.
