DON'T FORGET ROUNDUP REGISTRATION DEADLINE
It is critical that all Roundup delegates (finalists, All Stars,
volunteer leaders, Extension staff, etc.) be entered in the database
by June 18. As you are probably aware, the Information Technology
department is in the process of changing over the server and the
database will not be available after the registration deadline.
We need to get all the information in the database and then download
it before they close the server. After June 18, all changes/additions
will have to be made through your district office. The registration
site can be accessed at http://ext1.ag.utk.edu/4H/4HRoundup.nsf.

FAQ ON THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE’S PROMISE AND AMERICA’S
PROMISE
Q: What do the Five Promises have to do with 4-H?
A: The Five Promises, caring adults; safe places; healthy start;
marketable skills; and opportunities to serve, are already being
fulfilled by 4-H and practically every other youth service organization.
4-H Volunteer Leaders serve as caring adults, and 4-Hers are given
opportunities to serve through service projects, just to give a
few examples. The Five Promises provide a common language that
everyone can speak, and, thereby increasing awareness to youth
development and the individual needs of youth. By thinking in terms
of the Five Promises, a volunteer who is serving as a caring adult
by tutoring a student, can point someone to give his/her student
nutritional education and information that his/her student may
desperately need.

LEWIS COUNTY 4-H GROUP RECEIVES WATER WORKS GRANT
The Lewis County Home School 4-H Club was the grand champion winner
of the Stream Savers Grant. This gives the club a grand prize of
$500.00. This award is in addition to a $300.00 the group won as
a November Stream Savers recipient.
The club will be using their grant to fund various water quality
activities including creek stomps, water quality education (youth
and adult), and assisting with water quality activities at our
county natural history museum.
If you would like to see more information on the Water Works Stream
Savers Grant Program, please visit the Web site at www.waterworks.com.

VOL STATE NOMINATIONS DUE
All counties have the opportunity to nominate outstanding 4-H
members to receive Tennessee’s highest level of recognition,
the Vol State Award. Vol State recipients must be:
1) active 4-H members;
2) have been enrolled in the 11th or 12th school grade on January 1 of the current
year;
3) be an active All Star;
4) and be in attendance at Roundup. |
Each county may nominate two members plus one member for each
100, or major fraction thereof, senior members in the county. Members
do no have to be a state finalist. However, if they are not finalists,
the $125 registration must be paid for them. Please do not tell
your members they have been nominated for Vol State. The recognition
ceremony at Roundup is much more effective if the member does not
know they will be tapped. Vol State nominees should be indicated
during the online registration.
