MID-SOUTH FAIR 4-H CAREER PURSUIT
The Mid-South Fair, Memphis, is providing an opportunity
for 4-H members to participate in an activity called 4-H Career
Pursuit.
The objectives are to encourage 4-H members to.
. .
| 1. |
Become aware of and promote interest in
career opportunities in agriculture, environmental and home
economics related fields. |
| 2. |
Study occupational characteristics, requirements,
compensations, satisfactions and outlook. |
| 3. |
Assess their own abilities, personalities,
characteristics, values and interest. |
| 4. |
Prepare for the reality of a job application
and interview situation in terms of appearance, poise, communication
skills and knowledge. |
4-H members from five states (Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi,
and Tennessee) will be participating in the finals at the Mid-South
Fair. Each state may have three participants.
Tennessee's three participants will be selected as follows:
| 1. |
All Level I & Level II participants
in a 4-H Roundup awards program which includes an interview
as part of the selection process, are eligible to apply.
In addition, senior 4-H members (9-12th grade as of January
1 of the current year) having completed a certified workforce
preparation/career exploration program on the county, multi-county
and/or district levels are eligible to apply. Participants
must document the completion of resume writing and mock
interview exercises. A certification
form must be completed by the participant and signed
by the 4-H agent. |

Eligible members who wish to apply will
prepare a resume and submit three (3) copies to Steve
Sutton,
Extension Specialist, State 4-H Office, 205B Morgan Hall,
2621 Morgan Circle, Knoxville, TN 37996-4510 by August
13. A cover letter should accompany the resume
explaining the applicant's perception of the job and
their qualifications for the job. |

Participants should identify and describe
a career from the following list, develop a resume and prepare
for an interview in the selected area. The information on
the resume should be realistic, but does not have to be
actual experiences. This is a "pretend" resume
so you can create experiences that would prepare you for
the career you choose.

Tennessee's three finalists
will be selected on the basis of the resume. See the attached
suggested resume
format and
score card. |
| 5. |
Tennessee's three finalists
will participate in the interview process at the Mid-South
Fair on September 25. |
| 6. |
At the Mid-South Fair, three
finalists from the participating states will be selected
based on interview and resume review. The three finalists
will be invited to the awards luncheon on September
27 at 12:00 noon when the final placing will be
announced.

Members participating in
the activity at the Mid-South Fair will be expected to provide
their own transportation and other expenses. There will
be limited funds to apply travel transportation and other
expenses. |

Previous first place winners are
ineligible to compete. |
