4-H PERFORMING ARTS CAMP STILL HAS OPENINGS
The 4-H Performing Arts Camp registration deadline has been extended
to June 30. Don't miss the first camp of this type offered for
6-8 graders. Sarah Valley Rose, Tennessee 4-H Performing Arts Troupe
director will be directing the camp along with professional performers
and educators. The camp begins on Thursday afternoon, July 14 and
ends at 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 16 at the York 4-H Center
in Crossville.

The United States Golf Association offers “For the Good
of the Game” grants to organizations that introduce the game
of golf to economically disadvantaged children and youth as well
as to individuals with disabilities. Grant dollars can be used
for instructional programs, caddying or other work-based initiatives,
golf equipment, facility construction, as well as programs that
teach life skills inherent in the game of golf. Deadline: July

The American Dental Association Foundation’s Samuel Harris
Fund for Children’s Dental Health supports programs that
improve children’s oral health through community education
programs. Grant range: $5,000. Deadline: July 8, 2005. More info:

STATE 4-H FORESTRY AND WILDLIFE JUDGING JUNE 16
June 16 is the date for the state 4-H forestry and wildlife judging
contests at Montgomery Bell State Park in Dickson County. Regional-winning
teams will be competing for the honor of representing Tennessee
at the national events. The event climax with an awards banquet
at 6:00 p.m. Teams participating include:

STATE FINALISTS NAMED FOR ROUNDUP
Congratulations to all counties who have finalists selected for
state competition at State 4-H Roundup. The lists have been sent
to the regional offices. Please let us know immediately if one
of your state finalists will not be able to attend Roundup. Portfolio
scores will be sent to each county following the completion of
Roundup.

WILSON COUNTY IS STATE DAIRY BOWL WINNER
The State 4-H Dairy Bowl was held on June 1 in conjunction with
the “June is Dairy Month” Kickoff luncheon in Nashville.
A team from Wilson County composed of Jeff Turner, Wenter Davis
and Megan Johns took top honors in the senior division. Marshall
County was second in the senior division with Coffee, Putnam and
Rutherford counties rounding out the field of teams.
The Marshall County team will represent Tennessee in the 2005
Invitational Dairy Quiz Bowl in Louisville, Kentucky this November.
Team members Justin Daly, Caitlin Tindell, Connie Nichols and Justin
Barron were coached by volunteer leaders Nora and Briana Strasser.
Rutherford County was the winner in the junior high division of
the contest. Team members were Rachel Lee, Keaton Myers, Megan
Myers and Renee Price. Marshall County was second place with Coffee
and Wilson counties completing the field of junior high teams.
Donor for this event is the Dairy Farmers of America. Special
thanks to Dr. Gary Rogers, Extension dairy specialist for his leadership
in conducting this educational program.
