AGENTS SELECTED TO ATTEND NATIONAL 4-H CONGRESS
4-H agents have been selected by their regional staff to attend
the 2005 National 4-H Congress in Atlanta. They are Tonya Bain,
Crockett County and Wayne Key, Putnam County; Tonya and Wayne will
join Eastern Region program leader, Linda Bower; Extension specialist,
Janie Burney; Hamblen County volunteer leader, Donna Morris; Assistant
Director and State 4-H Leader, Alice Ann Moore; and state 4-H staff
members Steve Sutton, Patrick Hamilton and Amy Wrye as chaperons
for Tennessee’s 33 delegates attending the event.

CATCH THE SPIRIT
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards honor young people in
grades 5-12 for their exemplary community service. Awards range
from local to national, with prizes ranging from a certificate

NATIONAL 4-H WEEK MARKETING AND MEDIA RESOURCES KIT NOW AVAILABLE
National 4-H Week is Sunday, October 2 through Saturday, October
8, 2005. National 4-H Week welcomes you to connect with the 4-H
community where young people across America are learning leadership,
citizenship and life skills. This year's theme is Make the 4-H
Connection.
How can you promote events going on in your community? What do
you need to get it all done in time? Where can you hold an event?
The National 4-H Week 2005 Kit contains a wide variety of media
relations and marketing communications collateral to help you successfully
promote National 4-H Week 2005 events and activities in your community.

The kit contains the following materials: activity guides, bookmarks,
brochure, certificates, fact sheets, folder labels, interview information,
letterhead, logos, name badges, news release template, newspaper
ads, placemats, posters, proclamations, radio PSAs, table tents
and many tips, resources and how-to guides.
Many of the materials are available in a version that you can
easily save and open in Microsoft Word, customize with your community
and contact information and print on color printers. All files
are in .jpeg (graphics), Adobe .pdf and Microsoft Word. There is
a link on the site to help you download the Adobe Reader software.
We hope you find these materials helpful and look forward to promoting
National 4-H Week across the 4-H community. Once you have used

SRLF REGISTRATION DEADLINE APPROACHES
Don’t pass up an amazing opportunity for you and your volunteers!
The 2005 Southern Region Leader Forum will be held October 6-9
at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, GA.
The registration for this year’s forum is $190 per delegate.

Please note that ALL registration materials are due back to the
state 4-H office by 5:00 p.m. August 15, 2005. Registrations received
after August 15 will be charged a $10.00 late fee. Registration
cancelled after September 1 will not be refunded except in extreme

SARAH MCDONALD EXHIBITS CHAMPION FLEECE
Smith County 4-H member Sarah McDonald entered the winning fleece
at the 2nd Tennessee Junior Fleece Show. Sarah was awarded an embroidered
director’s chair provided by Jane and Kim Caulfield, Cotswold
and Romney breeders.
The fleece show was conducted during the 2005
Tennessee Junior Sheep Exposition in Cookeville. Emily Hatmaker,
Meigs County 4-H member, exhibited the reserve champion fleece.
The
fleece show was conducted and prize money provided by the Tennessee
Sheep Producers Association through the Wool Outreach Program of
the American Sheep Industry. The purposes were to showcase outstanding
youth, to increase awareness of the importance of wool, to encourage
producers to shear and package wool properly, and to help producers
recognize the desirable characteristics of a wool fleece.
There
were forty-seven entries in the show. Judge for the show was Brant
Hall, former 4-H member from Trousdale County and currently a student
at Texas A&M University where he was a member of their national
champion wool judging team.

TWO SELECTED TO REPRESENT TENNESSEE ON N4-HYDC
Congratulations to Meredith McBride, Dyer County 4-H member, who
will serve as Tennessee's youth representative on the National
4-H Youth Directions Council. Meredith will serve with Amy Wrye,
Extension specialist in the state 4-H office, who will be Tennessee’s
adult representative. Congratulations to you both!
N4-HYDC is the national youth leadership team for 4-H and offers
a unique opportunity for youth and adult members to further skills
as leaders in the 4-H program at a variety of levels. As official
members of N4-HYDC, they will participate in training alongside
others from across the nation. Upon their return, they will be
prepared to engage other youth and adults from the state in more
fully supporting Tennessee 4-H Youth Development.
We look forward to great things from Meredith and Amy's participation
in this exciting adventure!
