Delegates
participated in four service learning projects that
were planned by State 4-H Council. First, they donated
school supplies, such as pencils, markers, crayons,
pencil boxes, paper, scissors, rulers, glue and erasers.
Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation and Tennessee Wildlife
Resource Agency also donated coloring books, crayons,
and erasers. Then, over eighty delegates assembled
the supplies into 130 back-to-school kits, with some
to spare.
When
they weren't busy in the assembly line, they constructed
ABC flashcards. Later that afternoon, over 50 delegates
made bookmarks that contained good wishes, encouragement
to read, and messages about 4-H.
The
back-to-school kits, flashcards, and bookmarks were
donated to an organization in Knoxville called LAMP.
The Lonsdale Area Mentor Program, part of Soar Youth
Ministries, works with over 250 students at Lonsdale
Elementary School. Many students there do not have
the necessary supplies and support that they need
to succeed in school. The delegates to Roundup were
thrilled to be able to play a part in preparing these
children for the future. |
