A 4-H volunteer is always learning and using new concepts and resources in order to provide fun and educational experiences for youth they work with. There are a number of opportunities for you as a volunteer to learn and continue your development as a youth educator. Your County Extension Agent will offer information and advice on learning opportunities within the county. Other learning and training opportunities are listed below:
Tennessee State 4-H Volunteer Leader Forum
The mission of the Tennessee State 4-H Leader Forum is to increase the capacity of volunteer and salaried staff to contribute to the achievement of Tennessee 4-H Youth Development.
The primary purpose of the forum is to educate and prepare participants to provide unique learning experiences for youth and to share what they have learned with others in their county. Participants benefit from experiential learning activities that require them to discuss, use and apply what they learn. The ultimate application is for individuals and teams to teach others what they learn.
The forum takes place every year during the last weekend of February (the last Friday and Saturday). The location varies, however, we are re-organizing how the forum will be implemented and will have additional information in the near future.
Future dates: TBA
Tennessee 4-H Shooting Sports Program
The Tennessee 4-H Shooting Sports Program is a volunteer-led program that teaches life skills through shooting sports. Youth learn safety and shooting techniques in various disciplines. This program is affiliated with National 4-H Shooting Sports. "4-H Certified" means that you are versed in the areas of youth development AND shooting sports. If you want to lead a group of young people in the 4-H Shooting Sports Program, you must become certified through a Tennessee 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor Certification Workshop.
