This June, Tennessee 4-H members
will have the opportunity to become ambassadors for The Great American Milk
Drive, the first-ever national program to help deliver highly desired and
nutrient-rich gallons of milk to hungry families who need it most. This
leadership and service learning opportunity will give all 4-H members in
Tennessee the opportunity to make an impact in their own communities! More than
1.1 million people right here in Tennessee - including nearly 400,000 children
- are food insecure. And while one of the most requested food items is milk, on
average, food banks are only able to provide the equivalent of less than one
gallon of milk per person per year.
The focus of the June Dairy Month
program with The Great American Milk Drive is "Young People Helping Young
People" - as 22 million kids who rely on free or reduced-price in-school
meal programs miss out on regular access to nutrient-rich milk during the
summer months. Young people in each of the three regions should drive donations
to their own unique URL, so we can track to see which region raises the most
donations! All donations will go directly towards helping families in need
right in their own community - and the region that raises the most will have
their donations matched, up to 1,000 gallons!
