Cortez Chandler is a model 4-H member in Madison County. Cortez began his 4-H career at the Jackson Family YMCA as he participated in the 4-H Leaps and Bounds program. He went on to attend 4-H camp and has continued his involvement through the 4-H Honor Club and All-Star Programs. Currently, Cortez serves as a 4-H Healthy Living Ambassador for Madison County. He works with other teens to coordinate lessons from the 4-H Health Rocks! curriculum. Healthy Habits Program, and Food Smart Families. A noteworthy program Cortez conducted was the 4-H Food Smart Families Teen Activation Event at Jackson Careers and technology School. He worked with school administration to set up six stations throughout the school to teach youth about food budgeting, veggie and fruit intake, physical activity, and had a fruit and veggie taste challenge. he worked in cooperation with other 4-H members to have a successful program. In addition to his involvement with the healthy living activities, Cortez is involved in the implementation of the 4-H Kids Night, 4-H Chicken Shack program, and other service projects. The 4-H Mentoring program has been a big part of his involvement as well. He memtors a group of youth at North Parkway Middle School. Cortez has created a lasting relationship with the mentees and works with them monthly. His involvement in 4-H has strengthened the mission to help develop life-skills in youth in Madison County.
