Henry County Livestock Judging Team Takes 8th in Nation

The Henry County 4-H livestock judging team represented Tennessee 4-H in the National 4-H Livestock Judging Contest at the North American International Livestock Expo in Louisville, on November 13.

Overall, the team of Kara Barnhart, Ben Hayes, Murray Perkins, and Katie Schultz placed eighth in the contest. Murray Perkins was named an All American as the second highest scorer overall. In the sheep/goat division, the team was the 4th high team. Murray and Ben tied for 10th highest score, with Murray winning the tie breaker by 2 points. In the beef division, the team placed 5th, with Murray in 8th place for high scoring individual. The team is coached by Angela Wilson, Henry County 4-H Program Assistant and Melinda Perkins, volunteer.

The contestants judged 11 classes of livestock, gave 4 sets of oral reasons, and answered questions on 3 classes. There were 33 teams and 123 individuals competing.
