B.E.S.T. Training Dates Are Set for 2018/Registration Open December 1

Dates of have been set for the 2018 B.E.S.T. trainings for Leg 2 – the presentation leg. Registration can be accessed through K@TE – on December 1. Be sure to type in “Building Exception ally Skilled Teachers”, instead of B.E.S.T., when searching for the registration.

NOTE: A maximum of 12 participants will be taken in each regional location. You must have completed ALL SEVEN MODULES in Leg One in order to register and participate in Leg Two. There are no exceptions to this rule!

  • Western Region – Henderson County Extension Office
    • February 6 (1:30 until 4:30 p.m. central time);
    • February 7 (9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. central time); and
    • Day Three will be via Zoom with date set by participants
  • Central Region — Rutherford County Extension Office (Room B)
    • January 23 (1:30 until 4:30 p.m. central time);
    • January 24 (9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. central time); and
    • Day Three will be via Zoom with date set by participants
  • Eastern Region — Eastern Region Extension Office
    • January 25 (1:30 until 4:30 p.m. eastern time);
    • January 26 (9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. eastern time); and
    • Day Three will be via Zoom with date set by participants

Day One (half day):

Students deliver a prepared presentation for evaluation with the following learning outcomes.

  1. Evaluation by instructor, peers and self
  2. Identify personal deficiencies in public speaking and teaching skills

Day Two (full day):

Participants are exposed to various techniques that will improve public speaking and teaching skills with the following learning outcomes:

  1. Gain knowledge necessary to improve public speaking skills
  2. Learn how to organize a presentation
  3. Address various methods of presenting (including online and face-to-face)
  4. Understand the importance of audience involvement

Day Three (half day):

Participants will redesign and then redeliver their previous presentation via Zoom given on “day one” based on their evaluations and knowledge gained from “day two” of the training. The objective is to document student improvement with the follow- ing learning outcomes:

  1. Develop confidence and effectiveness in public speaking and teaching
  2. Improve the quality of life/well-being of families of participants that attend UT/ TSU Extension presentations
