Teaching about nutrition and physical activity is fun with the Food Smart Families (FSF) Grant. Using the Cooking Matters for Teens curriculum, UT- TSU Extension Cumberland County taught Junior High students hands-on cooking lessons to help empower families with skills to live a healthy life. Lessons covered included meal preparation, grocery shopping, food budgeting, and nutrition. Students had fun while learning the essentials such as basic knife skills, how to read and follow a recipe, and label reading. “Get moving” physical activities such as human foosball, relay races, and games add- ed to the mix each week.
The FSF grant made it possible for families to learn that getting healthy can be fun!
