Dyer County HealthRocks!
Dyer County 4-H Health Rocks! met through the Teen Classes at Three Oaks Middle School this year. The students were all Dyer County 4-H members that were in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades and were in the Teen Living class for Exploratory.
We covered a variety of activities and lessons relating to the dangers of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco. Some of the favorite activities that the youth in participated in were:
- the Wheel of Misfortune (effects of tobacco use),
- a lesson on stress (made stress balls and let them color to relieve stress),
- the Smokey Goggles (eye impairment), and
- the Tower of Power (Lego Activity).
With the Tower of Power activity, they had to build a structure that was tall, but sturdy. The Tower of Power lesson focused on how outside people influence them (good or bad) and how they could build a wall of good influences to help deter the bad influences.
