Have you registered for all of your 2019 professional development training? If not, be sure to check out “BrainWise”! As 4H agents, you live and breathe youth development; from health and agriculture to healthy living and citizenship. Well buckle up folks, we have a “take and go” curriculum that assists youth in every knowledge area of 4H and beyond!

Professionals in the research and education world have begun focusing on the “whole child”; that is, a focus on not just academics and career-building skills, but also the social and emotional skills that em- power youth to make healthy decisions about themselves and others. Sounds familiar, right!?

BrainWise is a social and emotional learning program that helps youth hone their social and emotional learning skills. The comprehensive curriculum teaches youth skills like being self-aware, regulating positive and negative emotions, managing different – sometimes challenging — situations, building relation- ship skills with others, and gaining social-awareness of those whom are different from them. Backed by 20 years of youth development research, Neuroscience, and Psychology, this evidence-based curriculum offers specific strategies and reinforcement activities that take your 4H programming a step further.

Please join us for our upcoming in-service, where you will potentially* take home a curriculum full of tools and practical application on each of the BrainWise “10 Wise Ways.” In fact, you may even find that YOU could be a little more “BrainWise” in everyday living!

The event is hosted by Dr. Matt Devereaux), Professor and Child Development Specialist, and Dr. Katie Conrad, Human Development Specialist, from the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. Please reach out for more information about the curriculum and in-service, and visit the BrainWise website.
