Each delegate attending Tennessee 4-H Congress is asked to write an essay of no more than 500 words on the 2018 theme: Tennessee 4-H: Branching from Our Roots.” One essay from each region will be selected for the state level competition. A state winner will be chosen from the three regional winners.

Essays will be judged on the following scale:

  • Subject matter content: 50 points
  • Grammatical composition: 30 points
  • Originality and creativity: 15 points
  • Neatness: 5 points

Regional winners receive a 4-H cinch bag and a $25 cash award. The state winner receives a 4-H backpack. The awards are donated by Jenny Yeary, Eastern Region Principal Secretary (cinch bags and backpack) and the Former University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture Workers Association (cash awards).
