Sevier County Health Rocks!
Glen Turner, Extension Agent III, Sevier County
Sevier County is in the final planning stage for our Health Rocks! programming for this summer. Sevier County 4-H is partnering with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Smoky Mountains this summer. Health Rocks! will be delivered to five different Boys and Girls Club Branches including Kodak, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and Seymour. The target audience is 300 Sevier County youth at the clubs involved in summer programming. Most are also 4-H members at Sevier County Schools.
This partnership is a “win-win situation” for both 4-H and the Boys and Girls Clubs. Positive outcomes include: Teen peer leaders are trained to deliver the Health Rocks! curriculum at each club branch; Boys and Girls Club members are encouraged to become more involved in 4-H programming; Health Rocks! curriculum fits into the overall initiative of Boys and Girls Club programming promoting positive lifestyle choices for young people and as a result these 300 young people will make better decisions.
Sevier County 4-H is thankful for the resources the Health Rocks grant provides!
