Entomology/Beekeeping

W927-A: 4-H Entomology/Beekeeping (DeWayne Shoemaker, Scott Stewart, Karen Vail, Jennifer Tsuruda, Jennifer Richards, Kaushalya Amarasekare)

Students will learn the basics of entomology including definitions and importance of entomology. They will learn the body parts, describe the importance of observation and record keeping and look at harmful and beneficial insects.  Activities included foster discovery and application of objectives learned.

W927-B: 4-H Entomology/Beekeeping (DeWayne Shoemaker, Scott Stewart, Karen Vail, Jennifer Tsuruda, Jennifer Richards, Kaushalya Amarasekare)

Students will learn the importance of insect collection, identification and the basic life cycles. They will discover insect morphology and function as well as invasive insects and pest insects. The student will demonstrate an understanding of diversity in other animals and humans. Activities included will foster the application of objectives learned

W927-C: 4-H Entomology/Beekeeping (DeWayne Shoemaker, Scott Stewart, Karen Vail, Jennifer Tsuruda, Jennifer Richards, Kaushalya Amarasekare)

Students will continue to build on insect identification, classification and recordkeeping; look at Entomology careers, diversity & evolution of insects, invasive species and integrated pest management. Activities are more advanced and includes a capstone project.

W929: Island Biogeography (Bridget O’Banion, Jennifer DeBruyn)

In this intermediate lesson, students will be introduced to biogeography and what defines an island. They will think about how island size and distance from mainland might influence how animals and plants arrive on islands.
