On Tuesday, February 9, 28 4-H members joined together virtually for a Southwest Cooking Demo. The demo was led by Arizona 4-H Assistant Agent, Liz Sparks, and four Arizona Healthy Living Ambassadors.
Heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States, but there’s a lot you can do to prevent it.
Taking time to care for your heart can be challenging as you go about daily life. But it’s easier than you
think to show your heart the love it deserves each day. Small acts of self-care, like taking walks, getting
quality sleep, and cooking healthy meals, help your heart. Research shows that self-care can help you
keep your blood pressure in a healthy range and reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke.

Listening skills are a key component of good leadership. This week we challenge you to LISTEN toyour friends and family. Take one hour each day where you just listen to what other people aresaying. Don’t offer up any information other than to listen. See what new things you can learn. If you talk, it should be about the person you are talking to. Ready for more of a challenge? Try this for a WHOLE day!
This Friday, February 5 is Wear Red Day for February Heart Health Month. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and many groups around the country observe National Wear Red Day each year to raise awareness about heart disease as a leading cause of death among Americans, especially women.
This week we want you to fire up your brain and body by thinking “Outside the BOKS”. Our challenge: work with a partner or individually to find creative ways to “sneak” movement into your day. Aim for 30 extra minutes of movement each day this week.
Several of you have inquired as to how to submit your 4-H’ers’ scholarship applications that are due in the next few weeks. Scholarship applications are still due March 1, 2021.

Get moving with Board Games this week. Download our new BOKS “Are You Game?” booklet andget moving with board games. Pick out your favorites or make up your own but make sure you integrate movement into any game you try. The challenge: pick a different game for every day of the week and get moving.
